  • The Student Engagement Manager is part of the Campus Dining team at Vanderbilt University and is responsible for marketing and communication efforts designed to enhance the reputation of Vanderbilt's dining program and more deeply engage with Vanderbilt's student body. This individual assists with the development and execution of promotional outreach strategies with a focus on in-person events and activities. In addition, this individual will assist with additional marketing and communication tactics including print, web, and social media. Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Marketing and Auxiliary Services, the Student Engagement Manager will serve on the Campus Dining administration team, interacting with all Campus Dining leaders and other partners across the university.

    Departmental Overview

    Vanderbilt Campus Dining takes pride in the culinary creations served from our kitchens. Our Dining program is highly decorated, the winner of many prestigious awards in the food service industry, including Best On-Site Food Service Operation in the Nation, Best Food Service Operator, the prestigious Ivy Award, and many more. With an annual budget of more than $30M, Dining operates a comprehensive network of residential dining halls, retail dining centers, markets, and cafes, and we employ over 300 culinary professionals.

    Key Functions and Expected Performance

    Strategic

    • Responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of a strategic marketing, communications, and PR program that enhances the image and position of Vanderbilt Campus Dining. Provide counsel to leadership team and Campus Dining on marketing, communications and public relations.

    • Responsible for the achievement of marketing/communications/public relations mission, goals, and financial objectives.

    • Develop and implement evaluation systems to ensure the University Dining program is meeting set goals and objectives.

    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with on campus constituents and campus organization leaders.

    Marketing

    • Assist in maintaining the dining website and all social media platforms on a daily basis to ensure accurate and timely information of all marketing programs, menus, hours, photos of events, news, etc.

    • Coordinate and oversee social media activity to communicate with customers and monitor trends.

    • Conduct relevant market research, emphasis on social media trends.

    • Manage the appearance of all the Campus Dining's online and social media platforms, in addition to print media and signage.

    • Coordinate photography and video footage to support Campus Dining's marketing efforts.

    • Coordinate campus media interest for Campus Dining.

    • Partner with vendors and suppliers to host in-person tasting and other events.

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for external groups to host special pop-up dining events, educational events, or other special events that help promote Campus Dining.

    Operations

    • Partner with the Campus Dining staff and key team members to develop and maintain a strategic perspective based on student needs and satisfaction.

    • Work with operations to coordinate and organize special events at each location.

    • Provides and facilitates internal communications between all managers to maximize the awareness and utilization of all marketing tools and support available.

    • Coordinate, design, and develop advertising and POS collateral.

    • Identify and advise on product and marketing improvements and enhancements including branding.

    Students

    • Develop and coordinate means to seek regular input from student, faculty, and staff regarding the quality of programs and services.

    • Implements student surveys, communicate results to Leadership Team, and work with managers to design detailed action plans to achieve the best results

    • Train and manage student interns and ambassadors to further connect with the students at Vanderbilt and assist with tasks of the Marketing Department.

    • Represent Campus Dining at student visit events, campus tours, and in-person tabling events.

    • Drive the process of Voluntary Meal Plan growth initiatives and measure results against stated goals and prior year history.

    • Develop and conduct public presentations to students and other campus constituencies as necessary.

    • Respond to student and parent inquiries regarding Vanderbilt's dining program as needed.

    • Promote student employment program; develop strategies to recruit and retain student employees, and partner with Student Employment team to foster a greater sense of belonging and connection for Campus Dining student employees.

    Supervisory Relationships

    This position has supervisory responsibility for student marketing interns.

    Experience and Education

    This position requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 24 months of experience in marketing, public relations, journalism or related field.
