  • Organization:

    SCP-Sutter Center for Psychiatry

    Position Overview:

Sutter Center for Psychiatry is part of the foundation of Sutter Health, Northern California's largest health network with 29 acute care hospitals, more than 5,000 primary care physicians and specialists, home health, occupational health, psychiatric care and more. The Psych Center is made up of several facilities that include Ose Adams Medical Pavilion, and Anderson Lucchetti Women's & Children's Center.

Sutter Center for Psychiatry places the patient first and always. We provide compassionate care, showing dignity and respect to the individual while focusing on safety and involvement of the individual and their family. Our recovery model is a program that empowers and encourages the patient and family to be active participants in treatment decisions and development of skills and tools to support them in their daily life. We provide services to children from age 5 to elderly patients through a spectrum of care that allows each person to find the level of care needed to return to an active, healthy life. We encourage family members and significant others to participate in each patient's care by taking part in education services, therapy and support groups.

The Staff Psychologist provides mental health services to inpatient and outpatient clients and their families. These services require autonomous decision-making, assessment, treatment planning, interventions, discharge planning, and internal and external community resource coordination. Consults with other clinical staff and coordinates with Psychologist II.

This staff psychologist works closely with the units at Sutter Center for Psychiatry, an inpatient hospital in Sacramento, CA. They attend treatment team meetings, provide individual therapy, and conduct group therapy with the Child and Adolescent Unit. They also provide short assessment batteries for diagnostic clarification; brief cognitive or dementia screening, mood disorders, psychosis, ADHD, and personality disorders are the most common referral questions. Once the training program is established, the staff psychologist is invited to participate in supervision with the interns, postdoctoral fellows, and associate social workers. They may be asked to provide training to staff on the unit or join committees for special projects; current projects include trauma-informed care, staff burnout, gender care, and implementing new treatment strategies on the unit.
