    Job Purpose and Impact

    The Senior Counsel, Digital Technology and Data (DT&D) will independently handle the commercial legal affairs for various businesses and functions relating to matters in the information technology and digital space. We seek a senior attorney with a high degree of technical acumen and understanding of technology infrastructure. In this role, you will provide legal advice and recommend action to executives and management on complex and critical company issues.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Serve as an expert in your field and work with limited direction. Independently stay up to date on emerging technologies and proactively research, analyze, and interpret proposed and existing laws, statutes, and regulations, specifically including those relating to DT&D offerings, to identify issues that may impact the company.

    • Provide strategic, actionable solutions and advice to business and functional leaders and legal colleagues on DT&D matters, provide direction to less-experienced team members, and be a key contributor to commercial and functional projects.

    • Create a DT&D center of expertise (COE) within Cargill's law department. The DT&D COE will provide leadership, guidance, and training on DT&D issues impacting Cargill to the broader Cargill Law team.

    • Independently structure, draft, negotiate, and approve legal agreements, written communications, policies, and other DT&D documents related to a variety of strategic trade, commercial, financial, and operational matters.

    • Play a key role in cybersecurity matters, including partnering with internal privacy counsel and collaborating with Cargill's Global Privacy Office.

    • Provide the DT&D legal perspective on mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.

    • Gather relevant facts and information from multiple sources using probing questions and methods and apply the results to legal research and analysis to drive positive outcomes.

    • Engagement, oversight, and cost management of outside counsel.

    • Provide expert consultative guidance for initiating strategic long-range goals and objectives. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience

    • Juris doctor and licensed to practice law in current jurisdiction with an ability and willingness to be licensed in Minnesota

    • Minimum of eight years of related legal work experience, specifically including experience relating to information technology and digital commercial projects

    • Significant experience with commercial agreements and collaborative relationships, including drafting, negotiating, and advising on complex technology-based agreements and the technology aspects of other commercial agreements

    • Significant experience advising on e-commerce, digital apps, software licensing, cloud computing, social media, and responsible artificial intelligence/machine learning.

    • Exceptional technical acumen and interest in emerging technologies

    • Experience advising organizations undergoing digital transformations

    • Familiarity with SAP and other key technology infrastructure

    • Confirmed ability to drive positive results using a creative and agile approach

    • Ability to build collaborative relationships and proactively address conflict

    • Demonstrate agility and decisiveness on short timelines

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience advising a technology-focused business and/or the IT function of a multinational corporation

    • Experience with cross-border technology transactions and related regulatory requirements

    • Experience leading business and legal teams

    • Experience as a member of cross-cultural and cross-border teams

    • Proven commitment to community service, including pro bono work
