Research Assist, Science_Undergrad (Data)

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Research Assistant to join our dynamic team in the

field of data science at USRA. The ideal candidate will assist in conducting research, analyzing data, and contributing

to the development of innovative data-driven solutions. The Research Assistant will work under regular supervision

and assist in scientific research and contribute as directed. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Data Collection and Analysis: Gather, clean, and analyze data from various sources to derive meaningful insights.

Research Support: Assist in literature reviews, hypothesis testing, and experimental design to support research

projects.

Programming and Modeling: Develop and implement algorithms, statistical models, and machine learning

techniques to extract patterns and trends from data.

Documentation: Maintain accurate records of research methods, data sources, and results for future reference.

Collaboration: Work collaboratively with team members to achieve project goals and contribute to research

publications and presentations.

Satisfy USRA's non-profit mission by making a distinctive impact through scientific and technical accomplishments

in the assigned projects.

Develop and customize data science software systems under the direction of a scientist.

Assist in the preparation of technical documents and scientific papers.

Assist in the development of oral presentations, including preparation of slides.

Performs a variety of duties in support of the research goals and objectives.

Act safely, ethically, and in compliance with all laws, regulations, and USRA policies and procedures including:

Ensure the protection of intellectual property including submitting new technology disclosures and supporting

patent applications.

Ensure export control compliance related to ITAR/EAR regulations.

Ensure compliance with all policies such as for timesheets and travel.

Complete all trainings as scheduled.

Other job-related duties as assigned.

Education: BS/BA Degree and/or Minimum must be a student or an upper division student completing a Bachelor of Arts or

a Bachelor of Science degree within the listed majors/fields of study and attending classes during the regular term

at an accredited college or university. Must be a student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and

Winter, if applicable). with knowledge of Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

Students must be enrolled in at least four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.

Major Field of Study in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field

Experience: Previous experience or coursework in data analysis, machine learning, statistical modeling, and

programming (Python or similar languages). Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to work

independently and as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to

present complex information clearly and concisely.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python. Knowledge of statistical techniques and machine learning

algorithms. Experience with data manipulation and analysis using libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, or scikit-learn.

Strong problem-solving abilities and a logical approach to data-driven decision-making.

Ability to work with large datasets and extract meaningful insights. Good organizational skills with the ability to

manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques. Familiarity

with version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus.
