    Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Project Engineer to join our team of engineers and geologists. We are looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in working on our nation's critical infrastructure, a desire to develop both field and analytical skills, and a desire to be part of a strong team of geologists and engineers.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Lead the planning, management, and execution of complex geotechnical projects

    • Develop engineering scope of work and fee estimates

    • Communicate effectively with clients, business partners, subconsultants, and Schnabel team members

    • Selection, installation, troubleshooting, and data interpretation of geotechnical instrumentation

    • Scheduling and coordination, during assessment, design, and construction phases

    • Perform design calculations, engineering analyses, and construction drawings, and specifications

    • Interpretation of soil boring logs, geotechnical instrumentation data, previous design reports, and laboratory test data, and development of design and construction recommendations

    • Drafting reports, graphics, charts, and boring logs. Some field work and travel will be required for geotechnical explorations, site reconnaissance visits, and/or construction observation

    Required Skills/Experience:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program

    • 5+years of relevant geotechnical and/or structural engineering experience in consulting

    • South Carolina Licensed Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain within 6 months, and ability to obtain reciprocity in other states.

    • Prior experience with geotechnical transportation related design and familiar with SCDOT Geotechnical Design Manual

    • Experience conducting geotechnical laboratory testing in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and USACOE Standards

    • Experience with interpreting geotechnical laboratory and geotechnical instrumentation data

    • Project Management Experience

    • Familiar with heavy civil construction means and methods

    • Excellent oral and written communications skills

    • Strong professional work ethic and desire to perform at a high level

    • Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary, multi-office team

    • Attention to detail and well-organized

    Preferred Skills/Experience:

    • Master's Degree or higher in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering

    • Seismic design experience a plus

    • Experience in dam design

    Other Requirements:

    • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check

    • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening
