  • We are searching for a leader to help up improve access to culturally responsive developmental and behavioral health care for youth and families in Central Virginia!

    The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a full-time clinical track faculty psychologist or other doctoral level behavioral health professional to be the inaugural Clinical Director of UVA Health Children's new Pediatric Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Health Clinic. This new outpatient clinic will be the only one of its kind to combine psychology and behavioral health, neurodevelopmental and behavioral pediatrics, integrative heath, and psychiatry. As part of the larger UVA Health Children's system, the clinic will serve all children regardless of insurance status and language preference and will be connected to an extensive network of pediatric primary care and subspecialty care. We are especially interested in candidates who will expand our commitment to strengthening diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

    Responsibilities will include

    • Evidence based outpatient mental and behavioral health assessment and intervention for diverse youth and families (70% clinical service)

    • Evidence based consultation to medical and interprofessional teams

    • Program development and management for the interprofessional outpatient clinic

    • Work closely with the clinic manager, heads of Pediatric Psychology and Behavioral Health and Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics, and development office to provide oversight and further development of clinical, educational, research, and community programs

    • Develop collaborations and partnerships with community organizations to foster synergy and more comprehensive systems of care for youth and families

    • Assist with the final clinic design and marketing in anticipation of the clinic opening

    • Teaching medical fellows, residents, and medical students

    • Participate in departmental, school of medicine, and health system committees and educational offerings

    Pediatric Psychology and Behavioral Health provides clinical service for the Department of Pediatrics and UVA Health Children's Hospital. The Section currently is comprised of six pediatric and child clinical psychologists and is rapidly expanding with expectations to double in the next year. This presents us with a remarkable opportunity to expand our team. The psychologists work closely with pediatrician colleagues, fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, and multi-disciplined allied health staff. Our pediatric psychologists and NDBP and integrative health colleagues have outstanding working relationships with providers in the community as well as with other pediatric subspecialists and colleagues in other areas of the UVA Health System.

    UVA Health Children's is ranked as the number 1 children's hospital in Virginia by US News and World Report and is nationally ranked in nine subspecialty areas. The University of Virginia Medical Center and Children's Hospital are located adjacent to the main university grounds of the University of Virginia.     Candidates also must possess a PhD/PsyD or equivalent from an APA-accredited program, have completed an APA-accredited (or equivalent) internship, be licensed or license-eligible in Virginia, demonstrate cultural humility, and be skilled in interprofessional practice in a complex, academic medical environment. The new faculty member will be expected to obtain board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology once eligible.
