The Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress at Kennedy Krieger Institute has been operating for over 40 years and has received national recognition.The Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor is a primary therapist to children and families who have been exposed to abuse, neglect and violence.

Responsibilities

1. Provides high quality and competent trauma informed therapy services to children, adolescents, young adults, and families including diagnosis and treatment through individual, group, or family treatment.

2. Conducts evaluations, including diagnostic assessments to determine appropriate treatment modality.

3. Develops and implements individualized treatment plans in collaboration with families, and members of the patient's treatment team. Maintain communication with community professionals involved in the patient's plan of care.

4. Participates in individual supervision.

5. Attends and participates in program meetings related to direct patient care and Kennedy Krieger Institute operations.

6. Maintains familiarity with Maryland state laws and the laws and ethical guidelines defined by one's credentialing board with respect to patient confidentiality, conflicting interests, reporting of abuse and patient termination.

7. Considers cultural factors in treatment planning for patients and in working with their families.

8. Maintains client activity at the projected level set by the department.

9. Maintains a medical record for each child which includes a diagnostic interview, treatment plan, progress notes, periodic reviews, transfer and discharge summaries.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed at the LCPC level by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

• Must hold and maintain CPR certification.

• *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by Kennedy Krieger Institute.

• *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

EDUCATION:

• Must have a Master's degree in professional counseling or related field with a minimum of 60 graduate semester credit hours or 90 graduate quarter credit hours OR

• A doctoral degree with a minimum of 90 graduate semester credit hours or 135 graduate credit hours.

EXPERIENCE:

• Must have at a minimum of two years of licensed clinical experience related to providing services to children in the child welfare population with developmental and emotional disturbance.
