The anticipated salary range for this role is between $158,000.00 and $196,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
Responsible for understanding FIST business needs, trends and goals. Identify gaps in the existing systems platforms and opportunities for new or improved products.
Become an expert on the full offering of sales and trading applications and how they are leveraged within Fixed Income, across departments, to reduce duplication of effort
Verify and improve on the data held in the bank's application inventory and prepare for architectural governance oversight. Identify strategies to mitigate existing risk acceptances.
Synthesize the business and technical landscape into a sound product strategy and execution plan
Lead the preparation of business cases and product requirements in close cooperation with fixed income business ensuring to meet trading and sales needs and expectations
Collaborate with various stakeholders, including engineers, designers, and vendors. Align diverse perspectives to ensure everyone is working toward the same vision.
Must have deep understanding of Fixed Income cash and derivative products and front-to-back trade flows
Analyze gaps in current flows to help with analysis of move to potential new platforms
Work with vendors to verify functional requirements and testing of new or updates to existing software products
Qualifications and Skills
6+ years of experience in Fixed Income domain as business analyst or product strategist, with focus on Rates & Credit for both cash and derivatives
Solid knowledge of broker-dealer/investment banking environment, sales & trade flows and eTrading domain experience
Understanding of market data, market making, and pre-trade concepts
Analytical skills to troubleshoot a variety of symptoms, diagnose problems, and test, recommend and implement solutions to technology problems
Forward thinker who seeks to improve business processes that deliver better services
Ability to convey complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences
Knowledge of platforms such as Bloomberg TOMS, Tradeweb, MarketAxess, ION, ICE (BondPoint, TMC)
SQL and relational DB experience nice-to-have
FINRA Series 99 membership is a plus
Investment banking experience in the trading or pricing domains, with Front-office trading tools exposure and a good understanding of f2b trade flow
Ability to take an organization from a perspective of legacy technology to a position of industry leading innovation
Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels within an organization, within and outside technology
