  • We are seeking a Board-Certified Genetic Counselor II to provide independent and direct genetic counseling.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    (This description is a general statement of required duties and responsibilities performed on a regular and continuous basis. It does not exclude other duties as assigned.)

    • Provides independent, direct genetic counseling.

    • Reviews medical records to determine possible genetic testing options.

    • Captures accurate and detailed documentation of clinical encounter to document clinical care in accordance with Medicare and State requirements for service.

    • Coordinates clinical genetic testing that may be available for patients including informed consent, lab requisition forms, and letters of medical necessity.

    • Understands and facilitates patient consent process for clinical research.

    • Present cases and communicate in a concise, accurate manner and communicate important aspects effectively.

    • Communicates and documents test results to physicians and patients.

    • Provides on call support rarely for inpatients within the hospital.

    • Fields and responds to inquiries related to genetic testing/counseling services from health care professionals, patients, and the public.

    • Develops and maintains cooperative and positive working relationships with team members and collaborates with team to identify and resolve issues. Participates in process review. Supports team decisions once they are made and assists with implementation.

    • Participate in a clinic/ GC development project.

    • Participates in educational activities, which can include giving lectures to current and future health care professionals.

    • Mentor and train genetic counseling students, fellows.

    • Attends and actively participates in weekly case conferences, clinic, department, and other JHU meetings as assigned.

    • Be aware of strengths/developmental needs, set personal annual goals for improvement, and discuss goals with Supervisor. Admit own mistakes and work cooperatively to correct errors or deficiencies.

    • Work with the team to serve the Johns Hopkins community and external.

    • Take on some administrative project duties.

    • Ensures the maintenance of patient confidentiality.

    • Performs miscellaneous related duties and special projects as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's Degree from a graduate program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.

    • Two (2) years of experience in general genetics or disease specialty area.

    Starting Salary Range: $64,000 - $112,200 Annually ($88,100 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
