    Simon & Schuster seeks an Executive Editor to acquire and edit practical nonfiction books that inform, empower, and inspire for the Simon Element imprint . The ideal candidate will be an astute and thoughtful editor and will excel at positioning each book to communicate its unique qualities and audience to both our in-house team and the potential consumer. A skilled communicator, this person will monitor the marketplace to identify emerging trends and nurture excellent agent relationships; they will also have a forceful entrepreneurial drive to discover and attract new authors to the imprint. The role will be fully involved in the publishing process through production and the editor will work to make the title succeed after publication.

    Specific responsibilities include:.

    1. Solicit, acquire, and edit 10-12 books annually in the following categories: health, wellness, parenting, relationships, personal transformation, and inspiration.

    2. Collaborate with the art, publicity and marketing teams to package and position books.

    3. Act as the in-house liaison among editorial and the production, design, art, and managing editorial departments, as well as the sales, marketing and publicity teams.

    4. Support other Editors in assessing projects as needed.

    5. Communicate with authors and agents in all phases of the publishing process, from acquisition to publication date.

    6. Effectively represent Editor's own list as well as the Simon Element imprint to booksellers, foreign publishers, literary organizations, and other out-of-house contacts beyond authors and agents.

    Please apply if you meet the following requirements

    Minimum of 10-12 years of publishing experience in editorial acquisitions for a general trade publisher

    Strong editing skills and experience

    Established contacts in the agent community

    Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

    Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to negotiate with authors and agents

    Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task effectively

    Excellent attention to detail

    Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, etc

    The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
