    EEG TECHNICIAN

    Job Description:

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Performs routine EEGs on the in- patients at their bedside throughout the Hospital.

    • Log on remotely at the start of the day to see how many patients have pending EEGs.

    • Establish a work plan and priorities. (If concerns arise lacking clear precedent then this would be reviewed with the Neurologist on call for that day or the Nursing Manager. (There may be one to four EEGs in a day).

    • Explain the procedure to the patient and obtain the patient's cooperation for the best performance of the study.

    • Performs the appropriate calibration procedure on the EEG instrument for standard recordings.

    • Measures and applies electrodes using standard 10/20 placement.

    • Understands basic troubleshooting of the equipment to provide artifact free recordings.

    • Be able to make discriminating observations and follow-up with physicians if indicated during a recording.

    • Enter patient billing information into the Meditech database system at the end of each day.

    • Notify the Neurologist before leaving the hospital at the completion of the day.

    • Archive studies, and may make copies for Medical Records when asked to do so.

    • Contact Biomedical engineering or the IT dept. with any equipment malfunctions.

    • Order and stock supplies.

    • The technologist is working independently, maturity and ability to establish good rapport with patients, public and staff.

    • The technologist may work with combative patients and must be aware of the possibility of injury.

    • Conforms to all policy and procedures regarding OSHA, JCAHO, and hospital regulations.

    • Participates in Hospital Quality Assurance and Safety programs.

    Education/Experience Required:

    • Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) accredited ENDT program or an Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university is desired

    • Capacity to deal with severely ill patients.

    • Physically able to assist with movement of patients and testing equipments.

    Registration/Certification:

    • Credentialed as a Registered Electroencephalography Technologist (R. EEG T.) or board eligible by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET)

    • Current AHA BLS certification.
