    SUMMARY

    The Recreational Counselors will be responsible for conducting various recreation activities with clients. organizing and promote activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, games, music, dramatics, social recreation, and hobbies, considering the needs and interests of the clients.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

    • Plan and implement therapeutic recreational programs and activities for day rehabilitation clients under the supervision of the Program Director

    • Conducts various therapeutic recreation programs for clients including, but not limited to creative expressive programs (writing, dramatics, music, arts, and crafts), light physical activities (walking, yoga, meditation), group games, special events and programs

    • Facilitate groups on time and in a professional, ethical, and caring manner

    • Provide backup coverage in the event of other clinical staff absences

    • Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team that consults with other healthcare professionals in service delivery

    • Demonstrate initiative in task identification and completion; use time efficiently and work with the Program Director to effectively handle volume of work

    • Complete all documentation (i.e., progress notes, group notes) in a timely manner

    • Inform Program Director of any problems or anticipated inability to meet deadline

    • Actively participate in all meetings (i.e., staff meetings, case conference, team meetings and individual supervision), if necessary, by being prepared utilizing problem-solving skills and providing appropriate feedback to team members

    • Submit weekly schedules, ensure prior approval for offsite activities, monitor, and enhance effective utilization of time

    • Insure communication through the compliance officer and/or the supervisory structure of any violation of non-compliance with the agency's Medicaid compliance plan and personnel policy and procedure

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED EDUCATION

    • High School Diploma

    • Bachelor's Degree a plus

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

    • CASAC-T, CASAC (preferred)

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • Experience in planning and facilitating recreational activity.

    • Experience working with adolescents.

    • Experience working in a residential treatment setting.

    • Must have a clean and valid NYS driver's license

    • Must be able to work the required schedule

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • This job operates in an indoor office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
