  • Position Summary:

    The Benefits Manager is responsible for the administration of Team Member benefits in all property operations. This position provides special guidance and assistance on various benefit plans. The Benefits Manager surveys the industry and/or community to determine the Property's competitive position in Team Member benefits. This position develops, recommends, and installs approved, new, or modified plans and Team Member benefits policies and supervises the administration of existing plans. This position develops cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to the property and its Team Members.

    In this Role:

    • Responsible for practicing, supporting, and always promoting Gun Lake Casino's Unsurpassed Service standards.

    • Responsible for the overall administration of employee benefits programs including, but not limited to, health plans including medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance; 401(k) plan, voluntary benefits, Section 125 plan, worker's compensation, tuition reimbursement, Sunshine Fund, and employee assistance program.

    • Responsible for the overall administration of tribal workers' benefits (work comp) and leave of absence programs.

    • Provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the Human Resources Office.

    • Evaluate and compare existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information.

    • Plan, develop, and/or participate in area and industry surveys. Analyze the results of surveys and develop specific recommendations for review by management.

    • Develop specifications for new plans or modify existing plans to maintain the company's competitive position in the labor market.

    • Oversee benefits administration to include claims resolution, change reporting, approve invoices for payment, and annual re-evaluation of policies for cost-effectiveness and cash flow.

    • Recommend eligible Team Members for new or modified plans. Develop census data and solicit quotes from insurance companies. Evaluate quotes and make recommendations to management.

    • Develop company cost information for new plans and make premium cost-share recommendations to management.

    • Design, develop, and create training materials for Celebration, leadership training, and property communications.

    • Implement new plans or changes to existing plans by preparing announcement materials, plan summary documents, and other media for communicating plans to employees. Conduct employee meetings and arrange for enrollment. Advise Counsel, management, and Team Members on existing benefits.

    • Prepare and execute, with legal consultation, benefits documentation, such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements, and insurance policies. Instruct insurance carriers, trustees, and other administrative agencies outside the company to effect changes in benefits programs. Ensure prompt and accurate compliance.

    • Assure company compliance with provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Affordable Care Act. Supervise the preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies. Review and analyze changes to state and federal laws about benefits and report necessary or suggested changes to management. Coordinate company benefits with government-sponsored programs.

    • Develop benefits information and statistical and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers, and management.

    • Manage the development and implementation of the internal Wellness Program to improve Team Member health, engagement, and productivity.

    • Handle benefits inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution. Maintain contact with insurance companies, Team Members, and beneficiaries to facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all Team Members.

    • Assist with all Human Resources functions as needed.

    • Maintain a detailed database of all Team Member's Benefit documentation.

    • Manage the Benefits team and be responsible for the development, performance management, and hiring of Team Member(s) within the department.

    • All other duties as assigned.

    Essential Qualifications:

    • Seven (7) years of combined experience in Human Resources and benefits.

    • Five (5) years of experience in benefits administration.

    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or relevant field required.

    • Must be at least 21 years of age.

    • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook applications is required. Experience with ADP timekeeping preferred.

    • Must use critical-thinking skills to work independently, in a team setting, and make decisions without direct supervision.

    • Demonstrate ability to administer all benefit programs including tribal worker's benefits. Self-funded experience preferred.

    • Demonstrate ability to function in a fast-paced environment, under short time constraints, and within established guidelines.

    • Knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in Human Resources, Benefits, and applicable law. Tribal law experience preferred.

    • Demonstrated ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of all Team Member accounts and records.

    • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills; be detail-oriented, innovative, flexible, task-oriented, and able to prioritize tasks effectively.

    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Guests, Team Members, and Management in written and verbal forms.

    • Work experience in the gaming or hospitality industry is preferred.

    • Must obtain a Gun Lake Tribal Gaming License.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Requires normal, corrective vision range, the ability to see color, and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.

    • Must have the manual dexterity to operate job-related equipment.

    • Ability to sit for prolonged periods while using a computer.

    • Must have the ability to access all properties and areas.

    • Must be able to lift 15 lbs. with or without assistance.

    • Ability to read, write, and input data into the computer.

    Work Conditions:

    Work is typically in an office environment or out on the casino floor. Work areas may be warm, cold, or noisy. Tasks may be required to be performed from a sitting or non-sitting position in a confined area. Team Members may be required to stand, walk, lift, reach, push, pull, and grasp.
