    WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Assistant Vice President, Project Manager/Senior Federal Planner with the potential to work out of our San Diego, CA; Portland, OR; or Tacoma, WA office. Become an integral part of the Federal Planning Team and help meet our clients' objectives and solve their challenges while working with a dynamic and growing practice. The successful candidate will manage large-scale planning projects and programs, particularly for U.S. Navy customers.

    The ideal candidate will be an established DoD master planning professional with experience in a wide range of Federal project scales and subject matter. Clients include U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, Marine Corps clients, including National Guard and Reserves. The person who fills this position will have the ability to recruit and lead personnel within a growing practice, while providing leadership through project and personnel management within WSP's Federal Planning team. They will provide technical leadership for site analyses, data collection, regulatory document review, technical writing, team coordination, and client management on a broad scale of projects including a single facility, a site, campus, community, or region. The ideal candidate will have experience leading and developing teams (direct reports) to generate accurate and concise written and visual documentation, implement best practices and will use established team guidelines for developing deliverables and will ensure that tasks are delivered with a high level of quality. Our team offers a flexible work environment with partial remote work options. Travel, including international travel, is required.

    Our Federal Planning team's expertise includes military master planning, programming, climate resiliency planning, zero emission vehicle planning, facility utilization studies, requirements analyses, aviation planning, munitions planning, facility programming (15% design), and DD Form 1391 development.

    Your Impact

    • You play a critical role in expanding our world-class federal master planning team on the west coast.

    • You will build a team of direct reports to support federal master planning clients.

    • Report to the Federal Planning Director and integrate the west coast practice with the standards, principles, and guidelines of the WSP Federal Planning Team.

    • You will influence, lead, recruit, and grow a team of federal master planners to provide exceptional deliverables to DoD clients.

    • Lead diverse project teams of planners, engineers, architects, and other technical staff to complete complex planning projects for DoD customers.

    • Coordinate with project stakeholders and serve as the point of contact for government clients on projects.

    • Lead charrettes and manage group exercises.

    • Independently evaluate and research technical criteria applicable to each project.

    • Facilitate project graphics development by working closely with production staff and the graphic design team to ensure consistency with WSP graphic standards.

    • Prepare written components of master planning documents and technical reports.

    • Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and communicate effectively to deconflict competing priorities and schedule deadlines and direct team members to do the same.

    • Conduct client coordination and administrative tasks as needed.

    • Manage and grow client relationships to foster additional work opportunities.

    • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate data analysis and project reporting.

    • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

    • Perform additional responsibilities as required.

    Who You Are

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field.

    • Holds a professional certification (PLA, AICP, RA, PE, and/or PMP).

    • 10+ years of professional experience, including planning-level analysis and reporting.

    • Track record of positive client relationships over time, demonstrating successful project performance, and repeat work.

    • Ability to maintain and grow relationships with Federal clients.

    • Prior experience with project management and charrette facilitation.

    • Willingness to share knowledge and experience to lead and mentor junior staff.

    • Experience as project manager, leading all aspects of projects from sale through completion, including team and financial management.

    • Experience recruiting and hiring staff at all levels to ensure project and financial success and growth over time.

    • Track record of mentoring, coaching, and growing staff within a team.

    • A current passport and ability to travel a minimum of 30% of time, including air and international travel.

    • The ability to support potential extended (multi-week) travel and international trips.

    • Experience leading DoD master planning projects and developing programming documents for DoD and/or Other Federal Agencies that apply principles of DoD planning and regulatory requirements to create innovative and tailored planning solutions.

    • Analytical skills, and familiarity with research techniques for local/regional geography, site planning, and ecology to identify development constraints and deconflict project siting.

    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.

    • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic team of planners, engineers, architects, and other technical experts to meet project objectives.

    • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

    • Ability to uphold workplace safety guidelines and to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

    • Ability to work flexibly to meet project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Ability to obtain a US-Government issued security clearance.

    • Membership of and/or active participation in local professional practice organizations.

    Compensation

    Expected Salary (all locations): $125,200 - $186,010

    WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
