    FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

    The mission of the Business Department at Hostos Community College is to provide credit programs leading to associate degrees or certificates for Business to facilitate employment in students' chosen field or transfer to a senior college. The department offers degree programs in Business Management and Accounting.

    The Business Management AS program prepares students for entry-level, administrative positions in the private sector. It also prepares students for transfer to baccalaureate programs, and further study for bachelor's degrees in Business Management, Operations, Finance and related fields. Candidates for the Associate in Science degree will be given substantial exposure to the field of administrative management. Functional areas in business are covered by courses in the principles of management, accounting, finance, marketing and accounting. In addition, students will be given a strong grounding in legal aspects of business activity. Students will become familiar with basic concepts and applications of data processing to business problems.

    The Business Department invites applications for two tenured track Assistant Professors starting in August 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching major courses in the Business Department determined in accordance with the current industry needs, and subject expertise determined by the candidate's background. The successful candidate will share responsibility for work within the department and across the college.

    In addition to the above duties, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

    • Teach foundational business and/or accounting courses including written, verbal and digital communications and ethics courses across face-to-face and online modalities, including day or evening courses.

    • Participate in curriculum design and development, aligning to industry needs.

    • Perform college and departmental committee assignments.

    • Conduct student advisement for degree majors.

    • Conduct and present research in area of expertise.

    Note: Essential duties require on-campus presence.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    A Ph.D. in Business Analytics, Management Science, Business Management, Information Systems or closely related field with an emphasis on Business Analytics and Data Science, Informatics, Data Visualization, or Marketing Analytics from a regionally accredited college or university. ABD with all degree requirements with a dissertation defense scheduled prior to July 30, 2024, will be considered.

    • Record of teaching effectiveness in the community college setting with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

    • Recent evidence of scholarly work and productivity through refereed journal publications, presentations at conferences, and/or other intellectual contributions.

    • Professional experience in industry or government.

    • Experience engaging and mentoring students in co- and extra-curricular activities, and in the exploration of career opportunities and job placement within the discipline.

    • Experience with online course development and teaching.

    • Demonstrate competencies using various data analytics software tools and applications such as (1) R and Python, (2) SQL and NoSQL databases, and (3) cloud-based data analytics using AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure or other cloud computing platforms.

    • Experience with assessment and/or AACSB accreditation.

    • Experience with high-impact practices, such as applied student projects, advising for internships, and interaction with financial industry leaders.

    COMPENSATION

    $75,465 - $86,645; Salary commensurete with education and experience.
