The Assessment Test

You filled out your application for the sales job you wanted and had your interview which you feel pretty good about. Now it’s time for the assessment test and you’re sweating it. Calm down and take a deep breath, here’s a few helpful hints for you.

Why do you have to take an assessment anyways? What’s it’s purpose? The assessment test is used by the company that wants to employ you to see where your strengths and weaknesses are. It will highlight your leadership style, determine your way of thinking and how you make decisions. It will also possibly tell your employer if you’re an extrovert or an introvert. When the interviewer tells you that you’re going to be tested, it’s perfectly fine to ask what on. Having a general idea of what the test is about will help you prepare for the test. Review your skills and, if possible, talk to an employee about how difficult the test was. You can also take a practice test online to help you be less stressed when you go and take your test.

The day of the test, relax. There really isn’t a right way or a wrong way to answer. Just be yourself and respond to the questions truthfully. Read the questions slowly. If you’re not sure, read them again if they don’t make sense. If you’re taking too much time on one, skip it and move onto the other next one, you can come back to the one that’s giving you trouble. A word of advice, if you answer the questions the way you think the company wants you to answer them, it may get you the job. However, you may be miserable because you’re not really suited for it and you won’t be able to deliver what the employer expects of you. It’s better to answer each question honestly.

After the test, the administrator may walk you through the results to get a better picture of what you’re all about. If there is feedback, be open to it as a chance to learn more about yourself and your behavior patterns. Talking over your take on the assessment test and your view of it may help show what you can bring to the company if hired. If you’re approved then you’ll be moved forward in getting the job. By taking the test, you’ll have more confidence in yourself and maximize your potential.

The test alone is not sufficient for hiring a potential employee. Combined with the application, and the interview, the assessment test can help the employer make the right choice for the job, and if you relax and do it right, it could be you!
