Is there money to be made in social networking?

As the job market makes a comeback, many people are starting to think about high tech jobs differently. In years past, most tech workers were working in fields like coding, programming, website design and system administration. Now, with the rise of social networking, more and more people are looking for work as social media marketing mangers.

This field is growing and those who enter it now, while it's still new, stand to reap the benefits. Although these social networking jobs are mainly in large cities, we can expect to see them move to virtually every city. It's not surprising that the number one location for social media jobs is New York City. In second place is San Jose, followed closely by San Francisco.

The most popular job title in this growing field is "Blogger/social media content writer". In New York City, this position pays anywhere for $22,000 to $60,000 a year. In the case of social media marketing managers, their salary can reach six figures.

To help make sense of the data, here is an infographic that shows where the jobs are and how much they pay.
