  • Overview


    The Project Engineer is responsible for providing technical assistance and project management expertise within LafargeHolcim's Mid-Atlantic Region - a manufacturer and supplier of construction and building materials including aggregates, asphalt, and ready-mixed concrete with operations in Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Specifically, the role includes project development, planning, budget control, contract management, award preparation, updating of project schedules, organizing construction, in-field contractor management as well as the start-up and commissioning of regional projects.



    The Project Engineer assumes management responsibility and attainment of project objectives by:

    • Demonstrating a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.

    • Completing engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elements.

    • Developing project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans and conferring with management.

    • Determining project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements, assigning personnel to phases and elements, and reviewing subsequent bids from contractors.

    • Determining project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards.

    • Completing technical studies and preparing cost estimates.

    • Confirming processing equipment performance by designing and conducting tests.

    • Determining project schedule by studying project plan and specifications, calculating time requirements, and sequencing project elements.

    • Maintaining project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems.

    • Controlling project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan, scheduling changes, and recommending actions.

    • Controlling project costs by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts.

    • Preparing project status reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions.

    • Managing/ coordinating activities of multiple on site contractors to ensure project completion.

    • Maintaining safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.

    • Maintaining project data base.

    • Maintaining product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations as well as corporate policies.

    • Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related activities as needed.

    • Managing and reporting on project status.

    • Compiling project financials - budget, commitments, forecasting and cash flow.

    • Completing and updating Project schedules for design, testing and implementation.

    • Completing technical review of scopes.


    Collaborates closely with the Project clients including senior management, safety professionals, technical experts, procurement, site management, suppliers and contractors to coordinate safe and successful project execution.



    Required Education: Bachelor's degree

    Field of Study Preferred: Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mining Engineering or other related discipline.

    Required Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience with large industrial project management including:

    • Experience in managing complex, time bound initiatives

    • Excellent communication and execution skills

    • Demonstrated analytical and financial skills

    • Detailed knowledge of logistics and distribution

    • Strong ability to influence with and without authority

    Required Training/Certifications: Project Management Certification preferred, but not required.

    Required Computer and Software Skills : Knowledge of SAP is a plus. Use of MS Office & Project or other project management software and CAD, CAD/ CAM design.

    Travel Requirements : 50% (estimated) may require extended stay periods and weekend availability.

    Additional Requirements : Ability to work independently and to manage multiple projects at the same time. Strong organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks.
