Otis has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer responsible for adapting sensing technologies and products to elevator and escalator systems.
The electrical engineer will identify sensors that can be integrated into elevator and escalator products to aid or enhance control, diagnostic, and prognostic functions. This position will partner closely with electrical circuit design and software engineers to integrate the sensors into component and system designs.
*Location: Candidate can be located in Farmington Hills, MI or Farmington, CT areas.
Identification of sensor modules than can support or enhance elevator or escalator control functions as well as applications requiring the sensing of other conditions to influence elevator or escalator behavior.
Work with the data analytics team to understand data requirements for various functions and use cases. Identify sensing technology options to support data analytic requirements.
Partner with electronic and software engineers to define requirements supporting product development and design with the use of different sensor technologies.
Support cost/benefit analyses for various sensor technologies and use cases.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 3 years relevant experience in sensor applications, and/or specification.
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or similar discipline is a plus
Minimum of 5 -7 years' experience
Hands-on electrical engineering experience working with sensor technologies integrated in electronic, software, and data centric systems.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:
Experience and knowledge of various commercial sensor technologies (ex: pressure, vibration/accelerometers, optical, magnetic, etc.) including their potential use, capabilities, and application in systems.
Understanding of the basic technologies of how various sensors work.
Knowledge of the sensor industries, and cost-effective trends and solutions for industrial sensing problems
Experience with development of sensor requirements for application and integration into systems, ideally utilizing modeling and simulation techniques.
Experience in evaluating cost effective solutions
Specifying analog and digital filtering requirements in support of data analytic requirements.
Integrating sensors with low power microcontrollers to achieve designs targeting lowest power requirements including compatibility with low power wireless standards and message protocols
Hands on lab experience with electronic sensor circuits and test equipment to support test, integration, and troubleshooting.
Demonstrated ability to work closely with electronic and software engineers to develop plans for the application of sensors
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals and/or teams at all levels and disciplines.
Understanding of basic cybersecurity requirements and mitigation mechanisms is a plus
