Job Description
WMATA is recruiting for an Assistant Superintendent that will support Grounds Maintenance and Custodial Services. The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills and experience managing a large team (to include unionized personnel) dispersed in multiple areas. The candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and have vast experience with creating reports and tracking tasks for upper management review. Candidate must be able to work independently with minimal direction.

Job Summary
The Assistant Superintendent, Grounds Maintenance and Custodial Services (GMAC), is responsible for supervisory, administrative custodial and landscape maintenance work. The employee is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of work schedules, the supervision of the custodial and landscape maintenance personnel.
Essential Functions
Assists in the development of work standards and safe practices for custodial and landscape personnel. Oversees the implementation of employee work schedules and activities supporting facilities and grounds. Areas of responsibility include all MetroBus and Metrorail buildings and grounds including landscaping, parking lots, bus shelters, terminals, and rail stations. Reviews work priorities and assigns work to supervisors. Monitors work progress and recommends improvements in work methods and techniques
Monitors the weekly quality control inspections performed by supervisors. Ensures supervisors are notified of deficiencies
Evaluates the effective and efficient dispatch of the various mechanical, custodial, and landscape personnel. Prior to approval, evaluates and recommends the purchase of necessary supplies, tools and equipment
Enforces safety policies in all assigned work areas to minimize work related accidents. Investigates equipment failures and damage and related personal injuries and accidents. Determines causes and extent of injuries and damages, then initiates necessary corrective action
Prepares, presents oral and written reports, recommendations to improve quality and performance of supplies or equipment. Enters all required data in the Safety Measurement System (SMS) for reported incidents
Assists in the preparation of budget forecasts for mechanical, custodial, and landscape maintenance needs. Analyzes labor and equipment report summaries to ensure work is performed within established budget
Supervises subordinate staff, recommends applicant selection, disciplinary actions, resolution of grievances, assigns duties, directs work, and approves leave requests and timesheets. Ensures required subordinate training is completed. Responsible for establishing work plans for subordinates and for conducting performance evaluations of subordinates based on these work plans. Recommends commendation or disciplinary action as appropriate
Participates in the technical evaluation of new equipment and service requirements with the goal of ensuring the Authority's Grounds Maintenance and Custodial Services functions operate effectively and efficiently
Observes the effectiveness of personnel training programs, recommends improvements and ensures training is available to personnel. Meets with employees and their representatives regarding complaints and grievances and resolves complaints in accordance with sound employee relations practices and operating requirements
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Authority personnel and vendors. Responds effectively and in a timely manner to inquiries made by Authority personnel and vendors
Attends and passes the required safety training classes and continuously learns industry best practices for working safely and efficiently. Ensures subordinates pass required training, maintain required certifications, and perform assignments according to established safety practices and maintenance guidelines
Other Functions
May represent their Manager or Superintendent of GMAC at meetings
Supports response efforts in emergencies, provides immediate maintenance support to protect assets. Responds to and assists during severe weather and other emergencies
